Thursday 28th July saw four of Irelands most promising start -up’s enter a real life Dragon’s Den. The four finalists pitched their diverse business ideas and competed for a prize worth over €25,000. After careful consideration and much debate between the judging panel, it was decided that there would not only be a winner but also a Special Award Recipient announced at the Prize-Giving Ceremony later that day.
The LINC would like to congratulate the winners of JumpStart 2011 – Safefood 360, founded by Philip Gillen and George Howlett, who are based in the LINC at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown.
Commenced in 2009, Safefood 360 is a young dynamic company building the world’s smartest food safety management platform. With a core team made up of highly experienced Food Safety Management Specialists and exceptionally talented Software Developers, they possess a uniquely combinedskillset which has allowed them to build a fully integrated web-based food safety management system. Safefood 360 will continue to ease many of the headaches within the food processing industry and contribute to the quality and safety of our food supply into the future.
The LINC would also like to express warm congratulations to Brendan Woods, of WoodsWhelan Ltd, who was the recipient of the Special Award. Brendan is developing a solution to automate the task of performing a bank reconciliation. The solution employs market leading Optical Character Recognition technology to read transactional data from printed bank statements, which it then cleanses, validates and consolidates the data before automating the process. It saves approximately 85% of the time taken to do this manually.
The panel of judges included : Gavin Duffy (Entrepreneur), Sorcha Corcoran (Silicon Republic), Emer Jameson (Yourlocal.ie), Lucia O’Riordan (AIB), Oisin Geoghegan (FCEB). The panel was chaired by Assumpta Harvey (Manager, The LINC).
