JumpStart 2015 Shortlist Announced!
Seven Dublin businesses have been shortlisted from an incredible array of entries from Irish Entrepreneurs. The quality of entries has grown with the range of originality, enterprise with global potential making it another tough competition this year.
JumpStart is an annual business start up competition now in its sixth year with a prize package worth €25,000.
The seven companies shortlisted for JumpStart 2015 are Groopeze, Raise The Bar Nutrition, RewardSync, Blazer Buzz, Bia Nua Consulting, Meet Usheru and InvizBox. The value of the JumpStart 2015 prize is €25,000 sponsored by the LINC, AIB and Local Enterprise Office Fingal.
This year the competition has three category prizes:
- ‘Women in Business Award;
- ‘Technology Award’ and
- ‘Innovation in Food Award’.
Out of the three category winners one will then be crowned the overall JumpStart 2015 Champion. Each of the category winners will win €2,000 with the overall winner will be presented with €4,000 as part of the overall prize which includes the cost of the incubation space for twelve months, the varied and fantastic mentoring support available to the company from industry experts and a range of useful business start up packages.
Assumpta Harvey, Manager, the LINC, Institute of Technology Blanchardstown said of the short list, “the applications this year have demonstrated a huge degree of innovation – the shortlisted applications will provide a challenge for the panel as they all have strong teams with innovative businesses. We are very excited to have such great start-ups pitching for the prize”.
The JumpStart 2015 shortlist will be judged on 17th November when the shortlisted entrants will get the unique opportunity to present their ideas to Ireland’s best known and liked entrepreneur Bobby Kerr along with Bernie Prendergast, AIB Regional Business Manager for Dublin North and West, Oisin Geoghegan, Head of Local Enterprise Local Enterprise Office Fingal and Declan Lyons, Technology Infrastructure Programme Manager, Enterprise Ireland.

Groopeze is a cloud based marketplace platform that is reinventing the way in which online group bookings are made, managed and paid for. The platform allows for multi destination and multi item bookings while making the whole process hassle-free for both the customers making the bookings, and the suppliers accepting the bookings.
Groopeze is a platform that sits behind websites like www.thestagsballs.com and www.thefoxyhen.com; stag and hen party booking websites that remove all the hassle from the best man or bridesmaids shoulders 🙂 Founders Darragh Kirby (31) is from Castleknock and Shane Murphy (32) is from Firhouse.
Raise The Bar Nutrition
Father and son team Tom and Neil Brady are big foodies that created Raise The Bar Nutrition a year ago with the son taking the lead role with Tom (63) looking after marketing and PR. It is their shared passions in food that led them to starting Raise the Bar Nutrition.
At Raise The Bar Nutrition they believe that you shouldn’t have to sacrifice nutrition to find indulgent products. All their bars are nutritionally better for you, and don’t have any unnecessary ingredients. Their chocolate bars are jam packed full of health and performance improving ingredients, high in protein and low in sugar. Raise the Bar Nutrition blend premium protein sources, with couverture chocolate, and natural superfoods, bursting with nutrients and also offer a vegan friendly range too.
RewardSync is developing an innovative solution which rewards people’s media consumption of TV, Radio and Web based content. They have a unique audience measurement service for Broadcasters which captures an additional layer of accurate viewership metrics and social insight analysis in real time. This rich viewer data will support our clients in growing market share and developing significant new revenue streams.
Founder Maryrose Maguire has 15 years of IT and commerical experience in the banking and telecommunications industry and founded RewardSync earlier this year. Maryrose is currently a participant on Enterprise Ireland’s New Frontiers programme in ITT Tallaght.
Blazer Buzz are in the process of building a device that will help save the honeybees from the various threats they face today. The device will create a new entry and exit path for honeybees and will be easily installed on any standard hive. Once installed it will remotely monitor the health of each bee and compile that data to give an in depth analysis of the colony’s overall health. Blazer Buzz are also developing a mechanical, non chemical, method for preventing problems such as Varroa and pests from ever entering the hive. In taking on this venture they have three main goals.
- to save honeybees all over the world,
- digitize beekeeping everywhere,
- and in doing so become the internet of things for Apiculture.
Founder Joseph Lanzillotta is JumpStart’s youngest Entrepreneur at just 21. Originally from Long Island, New York, Joseph now resides in Dublin.
UCD and UCC graduates Aine Kinsella and Niamh Duffy founded Bia Nua in 2014 to offer knowledge, support and development to new and established food businesses. Using their experience and proven capabilities to add value to a number of Irish and European blue chip client food business in the following areas:
- Manufacturing expertise,
- Concept Development,
- Marketing support,
- Project Management,
Kinsella and Duffy have always have had an underlying desire to run their own food business and in February 2014 decided to join forces to begin this journey. They currently have a number of Irish and European blue chip clients and are currently on the Bord Bia, Enterprise Ireland and Teagasc supported Food Works programme, while they are developing their range of products. This programme has been very supportive throughout their product development and business planning phase. Their goal is to have their product ready for launch in 2016.
Usheru, is a new app offering you great cinema ticket offers based on your tastes and location. usheru gives cinemasgoers listing, offers and unique film events. The app if available on both iOS and Android.
Created by Catherine Downes with business partners Oliver Fegan and Andres Macias. The Usheru app is ideally for film lovers and casual cinemagoers. Watch the latest and greatest films at a selection of London’s best independent and chain cinemas for a unique viewing experience, and get access to exclusive screenings, events and unique content. usheru is due to launch in Dublin in November 2015 having already built relationships with over 50 cinemas in London.
Co-founded by husband and wife, Paul Canavan, Elizabeth Canavan and Chris Monks, InvizBox – Privacy Made Easy is the world leader in highly configurable yet easy-to-use privacy devices, securing thousands of users worldwide by providing seamless connectivity to the Tor anonymity network with their first product. Their second product, InvizBox Go was recently successfully crowd-funded on Kickstarter, receiving over 100,000 euro in pledges. InvizBox is a High Potential Start Up client of Enterprise Ireland and successfully launched their first product in 2014 with more than 1,300 units sold in over sixty countries worldwide. The Company has recently been accepted to New Frontiers Programme at the LINC at the Institute of Technology in Blanchardstown.
