“Globalization, Credibility and innovation in Higher Education”
The second conversation will be led by Professor Brian Campbell from the University of Ontario, Institute of Technology on Tuesday 12th July at 11.00am in the LINC, Institute of Technology Blanchardstown. Brian’s chosen topic is “Globalization, Credibility and innovation in Higher Education”.
The university landscape is changing and many institutions are transforming and adapting. In this presentation I explore the relationship between globalization, credibility and innovation. Globalization is a term that I use for a host of changes in modern society including increasing: interconnectedness, market relationships, consumerism, rationalization, standardization, individualism, multiculturalism, pragmatism, homogenization and cosmopolitanism. In setting out key features of globalization I refer to various points of resistance. Many higher education systems and institutions are innovating to adapt to globalization in order to make themselves more relevant to this emerging context. I set out key areas of innovation and consider credibility pressures on universities both internally and externally that may constrain the extent to which universities can be distinct or innovative with respect to other institutions in this emerging global context.
